About Me

My name is Yun Ting Lee and I am a UX designer.

I am certified in UX/UI practice and theories through course work at General Assembly. In pursue of expanding my knowledge in this field, books such as The Design of Everyday Things (Don Norman) and Don’t Make Me Think (Steve Krug) were critical in understanding what it meant to “design for the user”, and further solidify my growing interest in UX. This quote from Don Norman resonated with me the most about UX design: “Why do we need to know about the human mind? Because things are designed to be used by people, and without deep understanding of people, the designs are apt to be faulty, difficult to use, difficult to understand.” In addition, I picked up The Elements of Typographic Style (Robert Bringhurst) and found it both fascinating and informative as it explains the different font types and their evolution in shaping how we perceive content; which drives how I design effective user interface today. I love applying design thinking process whenever possible. Just recently amidst of the pandemic, I created prototypes of my bedroom to help me organize the space for a new work desk. Through ideation, testing and iteration, I was able to come up with a floor plan that maximize the limited space I have but still make it feel natural and comfortable that meet my needs.

I had the privilege of working in different fields before realizing that UX Design is my passion. In these various roles, I gained invaluable experiences beyond design work. In my role as a HR Administrative Coordinator, I empathized with employees and support them through conflict resolution. When I worked as a Clinical Trial Coordinator, I actively communicated with patients to ensure transparency throughout the entire trial, which significantly helped ease patient anxiety. And as a Program Coordinator, I connected with professors and institutions to design and develop study abroad programs by understanding their needs and interests. What was satisfying in each of these roles was immersing myself in people’s lives. The more I learned about their goals and pain points, the better I was able meet their needs. I honed valuable skills through these experiences that attributed to my work as a UX designer. With an easy-going personality and always bringing forth authenticity helps me to quickly build rapport with clients and outline their needs through meaningful conversations. My collaborative work style and transparent communication allows me to work well in any multidisciplinary team. More importantly, my organizational skills let me stay on top of multiple projects at once, without losing sight of deadlines and goals. These can be attested by my peers, colleagues, and teammates in the testimonials below.

“Ting is an excellent addition to any team that values hard work, strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and human compassion. During my time with Ting she made it her priority to be an empathetic listener and advocate for the employee and try to find positive solutions.

Ting is the quintessential “yes” person while providing you with thoughtful alternatives or feedback. She often brings a fresh perspective and can deliver on a project from start to finish. Ting is a quick learner and can often rapidly overtake the teacher.

She is a joy to work with as her positive attitude and easy manner are one of the many reasons I truly appreciated having Ting as a member of our team.”

Sharon May
Sr. Director, OD&E

“I had the pleasure of working with Ting on a complex data collection and analysis project with thousands of individuals participating through a vendor-managed instrument and database. The project was months long and highly complex, and Ting’s insights and abilities were pivotal to it’s success in many ways.

During the planning phase a variety of stakeholder perspectives needed to be clarified and managed, and Ting’s warmth and diplomacy helped ensure everyone felt included in the process. More importantly, her tremendous attention to detail raised important issues for clarification that would have resulted in serious derailment if not settled early in the process. Ting’s ability to manage multiple variables at once, and to foresee their interactions and impact further down the line was critical to success.

Ting is a joy to work with, bringing a positive energy and collaborative spirit. She can manage the smallest of details without losing sight of the big picture and top priorities. I highly recommend her as a rare talent and an exceptional addition to any team.”

“Ting is the quintessential team player. She brings a unique blend of positivity, work ethic and sense of style to any project she is a part of. We tasked Ting with designing our kickoff t-shirt, which sets the tone for our entire season. Ting made the effort to listen to our club’s needs while also understanding our player base. This involved taking feedback and suggestions from several different people throughout the process and finding the solution that everyone wanted, even if they didn’t know it themselves.

Perhaps the best thing about working with Ting is her calm and positive nature. Even if you find the task daunting, spending 5 minutes with Ting removes any doubt that the task will be completed flawlessly.”

When I am not designing, you can bet that I am somewhere playing volleyball, slouched in a couch corner reading my Kindle, eating and/or planning my next meal, exploring new mountains to hike and adventures to go on, or simply napping away.
